An Overview of Unpaid NPower Stipends

The issue of unpaid NPower stipends emanated after the change of leadership, management and administration of the NPower Programme, precisely during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020.

 

Some NPower beneficiaries (Batches A and B) were not paid their stipends from March 2020 to July 2020 till now, due to a change in the payment platform from NIBSS (Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System) payment platform to GIFMIS (Government Integrated Financial Management Information System) payment platform when the payment of NPower stipends initiated on the 16th of April, 2020 to pay for the month of March stipends.

 

While some eligible NPower beneficiaries remained unpaid, some previously exited and resigned NPower beneficiaries did receive payments through the new payment platform system (GIFMIS).

 

Promises were made by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to resolve the non-payment issue and reverse payment from those who mistakenly got paid.

 

A lot of efforts were made by the unpaid NPower beneficiaries (Batches A and B), ranging from calling the NPower call centre lines, sending emails to the NPower technical support, filling forms online to submit their details, doing online protests (especially on Twitter), financing some physical protests in Abuja, using newspapers to publish the non-payment issue on different online media platforms, and writing letters to appropriate authorities, but nothing tangible happened.

 

After a lot of re-validation processes, wasting of time, efforts, transport fares, data subscriptions, and other monetary resources, it is very painful that only another set of few selected unpaid NPower beneficiaries received payments to ease the tensions online and stop the planned protests, while so many other active and validated NPower beneficiaries remain unpaid till date.

 

The non-payment of NPower stipends has dealt a devastating blow to some who have yet to receive their stipends, not because they are lazy, but because it is a time of global disaster—a time of total lockdown with no alternative means of survival. But God, in his infinite mercy and divine providence, saw them through.

 

As the Yoruba adage always says, ‘Pasan tafi na iyale, o nbe l’aja fun iyawo’ meaning that “the cane we used to beat the first wife, is still being kept for the new wife”.

 

Hmn! I am writing this blog from experience. If all the NPower Batch C Stream 1 beneficiaries who are having the same non-payment issues failed to do the needful on time, I mean right now before the commencement of deployment of Batch C Stream 2, nothing will be done again because that is what actually happened to both Batches A and B NPower beneficiaries at that time.

 

The NPower technical support team may be making efforts to resolve the issue as posted on its Facebook account, but they can never see it all.

 

Then, there is a need for you to do the right thing now. Never postpone it. Read this article to the end to know what to do in order to claim or revover your unpaid NPower stipends.

 

As you can see from the screenshot lastly pasted above, it has been posted since July 26 this year but many Batch C Stream 1 NPower beneficiaries are still clamouring online that they are yet to see or receive their due monthly stipends (FAILED), which prompted me to write this article.

 

I have used this method for over four (4) unpaid NPower beneficiaries and it has really worked, and they all got paid. I would have loved to mention them in this post, but I decided to leave it blank.

 

Although most of the NPower programme beneficiaries are graduates, not all are tech savvy, which is the challenge some are facing. But with this post, you will be able to do it yourself without seeking technical help as everything is explained in detail with simplicity.

 

 

How to Claim or Recover Your Unpaid NPower Stipend(s)

Sending an email to the NPower technical support team will expedite your claim for your unpaid NPower stipend(s). As said earlier, they cannot do everything; they are only trying to sort things out. But by notifying them via their official email address, they will just go and confirm your claim and do the needful.

 

Just make sure you follow all the instructions stated in this article and provide all the adequate information without any spelling or typographic errors.

 

Let’s get started. I believe you still have an email address you used for NPower registration with you, because you will use it to send the electronic message to them.

 

Your email address can be yourname@gmail.com, yourname@yahoo.com, or other email service providers. They will all require the same information, so I’m using sososo@gmail.com in this format explained below.

But it is not compulsory that you do so if you don’t know how to do it. Meanwhile, it serves as evidence most of the time.

 

For instance, you can screenshot something like the one below from your NPower portal profile dashboard. You don’t need to edit or cover your Bank name and Account number. Let them see your bank details.

When is the Best Day and Time to Send an Email to the NPower Support Team?

It is advisable that you send your non-payment complaint in the form of an email to the NPower support team email address on weekends (i.e. Saturdays and Sundays), around 10pm, so that they can start working on all new emails received from early Monday, and your information will be among the first to be seen and attended to.

 

Make sure you provide correct information to avoid giving NPower technical team officials any unnecessary tasks in searching or sorting for your information, or else your email will be skipped and the next person will be attended to.
