Why Young People Must Embrace Entrepreneurship

In the days of yore, there were enough job opportunities for graduates. The companies go to schools to scout for potential employees and lure them with mouth-watering offers.

 

The era of automatic jobs is over. Now we have more graduates being churned out every year with fewer job opportunities out there.

 

No thanks to technology, which has taken the place of human beings and other socioeconomic factors.

 

You will agree with me that ATMs (Automated Teller Machines) have since their inception seriously reduced the number of employees employed by banks on a yearly basis.

 

Our education may not be that useful again unless it translates into something profitable for you and those around you.

 

In fact, those who embraced entrepreneurship without ever having formal education years ago now make more money than people who spent their years in school, while they close their eyes to their God-given potential and ways to profit from it.

 

Today, comedians, music producers, singers, footballers, actors, and actresses, etc. make a lot of money with or without education.

 

In fact, some drop out of school to pursue their passion, turning it into a lucrative business and making a lot of money.

 

When Bill Gates discovered that what he was being taught in school was not as relevant as the brainwaves he was getting in the area of software development, he decided to devote more time to his passion, and the rest is history.

 

While it is not recommended that anyone should drop out of school, the lesson is – start thinking of how to put your education to good use before you leave school.

 

Apply a learn-to-earn strategy by learning any passionate skill so that you can start earning with it. 

Your education will complement your acquired skills in the process of achieving your dream.

 

A visit to the "computer village" reveals that some of the boys, whose offices consist of a stool, an old laptop, and a small shelf of phone accessories, earn #5,000 or more per day for services such as loading songs into memory cards, repairing phones, and selling phone accessories. That amounts to around #150,000 every month. Only top echelon employees in the civil service earn close to this.

To break the cycle of poverty in your family, you may have to learn a trade or acquire a skill even while you are in school.

 

Don’t sit down idle after school expecting to get a job.

 

Jobs are scarce and hardly pay as much as you will earn through entrepreneurship.

 

Some years back, some people, including pregnant women, lost their lives while trying to secure a job with the Customs Service. It is possible they may still be alive if they had been entrepreneurs. They wouldn’t need the job in the first place.

 

Going the way of entrepreneurship might just save your life from Nigeria’s social mess!
